• 1년에 한번씩 노르웨이 왕에 의해 수여.
• 노르웨이 정부에 의해 기금이 관리됨.
• 2009년의 상금은 684,000 유로 (929,000 달러)
• 아벨상이 수학분야의 노벨상에 가깝다는 의견도 있음.
  
  • 아벨상은 수상자의 연령에 제한이 없음.
  • 필즈메달은 대상자, 주기, 상금규모면에서 노벨상과 차이가 있음.
• 매해 3월말이나 4월초에 발표
